Using Social Issue Questions in Your ClassroomSocial issue questions can be one of the most effective ways to persuade. It is a much more direct way of saying 'What do you want to be when you grow up?' This is a direct approach that makes a person take notice and think about what the question is really asking. Once they are aware of the nature of the question, they will be more receptive to whatever the answer may be.When you are trying to get a person to change their opinion, there is no doubt that this is very difficult to do. It is necessary to keep in mind that when you are trying to persuade someone that what you are trying to say is true, they will not be willing to make any change until they have been convinced by the truth of the situation. This is very important. Therefore, you should consider this when you are using social issue questions.However, many people believe that the word persuasion is not as commonly used these days because it is becoming more widely known that pe rsuasion and human psychology are not the same thing. It was not in the past. The one type of persuasion is what is referred to as cognitive. That is, getting someone to do something without any of their emotions or actions. The other form of persuasion is what is called behavioral persuasion.There is no doubt that both would work, but the former would probably be the better of the two. When you use a social issue question, you would be able to accomplish the task faster and would get the most responsive response that you could possibly hope for.The majority of topics that are covered in school on subjects such as literature, history, social science, and subject matter would all benefit from the use of social issue questions. For example, if you were teaching history, you could take the time to ask questions to the students about events that they may have read in the past. You could also usea social issue question to the students about what they think their schools should be like. I f the students were satisfied with their schools, then the class could take it into the future.For some reasons, students who read about the history of their school for short periods of time may respond better to questions that ask about the future. They may be more responsive to these questions than those who read about the past for a longer period of time. This is an idea that you could implement into your own classes.You should also use these types of questions in your own classroom. For example, if you wanted to get the students to think about something that was bothering them, you could use the kind of question that asks about what is bothering them. This is a more direct question that has a lot more impact than just getting the students to think about something that is bothering them.Understanding human psychology is important. It is not enough to know that the subject is important. It is imperative that you also use the best methods of persuasion to convince others of the rig htness of your ideas.
